Story is a huge part of history obviously because you can even see it in the name hiSTORY. Events that occured throughout history are not told as just facts but the are brought together in sync with story.
Here are a few ways that I think we can incorporate more story into history classes:
1) Students can be assigned a certain list of facts such as facts about the allies in WWI and then they have to make up their own story including those facts and then compare it to what actually happened.
2) Students can read more autobiographies of personal stories from people actually living in the time period that they are studying. Then students could connect emotionally to the characters of that time period and rememer the events in a more personal way.
3) Students could take events in their lifetimes and connect them to certain events that have occured throughout history. Then, they could tell them to the class and act them out.
4) Teachers could also do these things listed above with the students, getting them involved.
5) Drawings could be created that have a story behind them and then they could be presented to the class (also involves design)
All in All, I think that history class offers a lot of story elements.
